Malt beer

Malt beer is a beverage made from barley malt syrup, sugar, water, yeast and hops. Malt beer has a negligible alcohol content. It is sometimes called Malta or Wheat Soda. It is considered nutritious by some people and sometimes given to nursing mothers.

The German version is called Malzbier; popular brands include Vitamalz. Brands for sale in Israel include Nesher and Goldstar. Variations are also popular in Latin and Caribbean countries. West African brands include Guinness Malt, Amstel Malt, Maltex, Maltini etc., and are sold as energy drinks. Danish brands include TuborgSupermalt and Powermalt. In the UK Danish malt drinks have become popular amongst the South Asian community and have been sold in their dedicated supermarkets since the 1970's.
